The City and its recycling partner, ReCommunity, invite residents, schools and organizations to participate in a plastic bottle collection contest in celebration of Earth Day 2012. The “Plastic Bottle Collection Blitz” runs through Saturday, April 21.From 1-3 pm on that day, all bottles collected should be taken to Price Park at the Kathleen Clay Library, 1420 Price Park Rd., for weigh-in. Cash prizes will be awarded to collectors for the top three amounts of bottles by weight: $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $100 for third place. Contest results will be announced between 4:30-5 pm.All bottles should be empty and dry with caps removed. Any plastic water bottles, soda bottles, milk and juice jugs, laundry detergent containers, shampoo bottles, etc., will be accepted. “Earth Day is a perfect time for us to help remove plastic bottles from our environment. We can turn them in to ReCommunity, who will get them recycled back into plastic bottles,” said Foust.
