Welcome to IMPACT Greensboro

IMPACT Greensboro invites applicants for the 2009 - 2010 program year. This program provides the opportunity for individuals to work together with others to understand the issues and challenges of our community and to forge new ways to address them. This unique combination of education, skill building and small group work, allows for the thoughtful examination of the dynamics of diversity, leadership and community building. The outcome of IMPACT Greensboro is to create leaders who will engage in civic opportunities to strengthen our city.

WHAT IS A CHANGE AGENT?

A Change Agent is someone who knows and understands the dynamics that facilitate or hinder change. Change Agents define, research, plan, build support, and partner with others to create change. They have the courage and the willingness to do what is best for the community. IMPACT Greensboro develops a framework for dialogue that increases individuals’ capacity to work as Change Agents through:

  • respecting one another;
  • valuing diversity;
  • honing individual skills in managing change;
  • forging collective ways to address mutual community interests and concerns; and
  • building bridges of trust among Greensboro’s diverse residents

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

IMPACT Greensboro is seeking applications from emerging or current leaders interested in becoming an IMPACT Greensboro “Change Agent.” Applicants must have a commitment to address community issues, develop relationships with people from diverse cultures, be available for all of the sessions and be at least 17 years old.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

IMPACT Greensboro has an intensive first year. There are five day-long sessions that meet on Saturdays. In other months, there are shorter, 3-hour meetings which meet on Saturdays, with a small group of peers, who share an interest in the same community issue. After the intensive first year, Change Agents become part of a network that continues to address community concerns.

HOW ARE PARTICIPANTS SELECTED?

Fifty participants, who have a strong sense of community and a proven commitment to service, will be chosen to participate. Participants will reflect the diversity of the community and include people from many different backgrounds, education levels, and ages. Participants must attend all large and small group sessions.

WHO SPONSORS IMPACT GREENSBORO?

The three sponsors of IMPACT Greensboro are the City of Greensboro Human Relations Department, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and the UNCG Center for Youth, Family & Community Partnerships.
